Mr Henry Norris

Sir
Yours of the 8 instant is before me wherein you say the people hold of buying
Since the arr |iva| l of the W |es| t india Fleet in expectation of the qty of Cotton therein reducing
the price, The general opinion of merchants here are that Cotton will keep its price &
that shoud Grenada & Curiaco share the fate of St Vincent it must advance greatly, these
two Isl |an| ds they look upon as already gone & are in great fear for Tobago, St Kitts & Severall
others in this case where must Cotton come from. I see Cotton Plantations in Jam |aic| a
are cheiffly turnd to Sugar Cane & the cheiff of what we've of late had from thence
has been St Domingo & as all trade from thence to our Isl |an| ds is put a stop too & I think
we may now conclude that the Captures of St Domingo Ships are pretty much over. I
woud ask if such Cotton be necessary for some manufactures where must it come
from & further its my opinion lett the quantity of Cotton lately imported be what it may,
if we shoud have a certain Acco |un| t of the first mentiond Islands being taken people
woud not know what to Ask for Cotton notwithstanding woud have you Sell
on best terms you can and for reasons beforemention'd, Mr Brocklehurst & Mr Watson
for the Preston manufactory are now here but I believe neither of 'em have yet
been able to make any Purchases I am respectfully Sir Your Mo |st| Obed |ient| Serv |an| t
